Tracking standardisation activities

One of the objectives of ENISA, expressed in the Regulation (EC) No 460/2004 establishing ENISA is to perform the following task:

Art. 3(g): to track the development of standards for products and services on network and information security.

Since standardisation activites cover a vast area, in 2009 ENISA made a commitment of assessing current developments in the area of standardization that relate to the subject of resilience of communication networks that consitutes one of the main areas of work for ENISA. For 2009 work in this area focuses on performing a gap analysis of standardisation activities in the area of resilience while at the same time drawing conclusions on the directions of future standardisation activities in this area. In order to perform this gap analysis ENISA is currently:

  • Identying and elaborating on the work performed by standardisation bodies, such as ISO, ETSI, ITU,  CEN, CENELEC etc., relevant to the definition of resilience of communication networks (e.g. network availability per service type, definition of “acceptable” levels of service, etc.);
  • Carrying out an identification and description of standardization activities reevant to the subject of resilience of communication networks;

The results of this activity are expected to be publish by November 2009.
