Trainings and exercises

Through trainings and exercises, ENISA strengthens capacity-building efforts for robust and well-tested systems to counter evolving cybersecurity threats.

One of the most visible and widely recognised aspects of ENISA's cybersecurity efforts is its Cyber Europe programme. The ‘Cyber Europe’ exercise series aims to enhance Europe's preparedness for large-scale cybersecurity incidents and crises by facilitating EU-wide testing and improvement, fostering trust within the EU cybersecurity ecosystem, and providing training opportunities for all the different types of participants.

Additionally, ENISA has been steadily involved in organising diverse cybersecurity exercises at the local, international, and EU-wide levels. These exercises test the EU's critical IT security infrastructure and its ability to coordinate cross-border responses. The Agency also develops unique cyber exercise solutions, enabling stakeholders to tailor scenarios to their specific needs and even host their own exercises.

Training

ENISA’s training and teach-the-teacher programmes help build competencies and resilience in the areas of technical and operational security.

The approach of testing, identifying gaps, and enhancing the skills of IT professionals at the operational level is core to ENISA’s mission. Training is key to building technical and operational security competencies and resilience.

ENISA introduced its ‘Cyber Security Training’ material in 2008. Since then, it has been updated regularly with essential content to support the ‘CSIRT’ community. A “Train-the-Trainer” approach was employed to support the ENISA stakeholder community, while additionally, the training material was provided as a free download for strictly non-commercial use.

These training materials (handbooks and virtual machines) are no longer available and have been archived. The feedback received over the years indicates that the training material has been helpful for many individuals in further developing their cyber skills and competencies.
