In 2022, ENISA was tasked to establish and roll-out the implementation of the Cybersecurity Support Action Programme, a fund for the provision of cybersecurity services to support Member States reinforce their preparedness (ex-ante), and response (ex-post) capabilities. These services are intended to complement efforts at both national and EU level to further improve prevention and detection capacities, strengthen situational awareness and response to large-scale cybersecurity incidents or crises.
Cybersecurity Support Action is one significant yet recent development of the duties of ENISA towards building expertise and establishing knowledge-sharing among Member States. The Programme aims to increase cybersecurity prevention and detection capacities of Member States and support response capabilities to cyber threats and incidents through strengthening situational awareness, preparedness and assessment of cyber capabilities.
Member States have used the Programme by submitting a series of requests for support that ENISA fulfilled. Following the successful implementation of this Pilot project in 2023, further funds were earmarked under the Digital Europe Programme (DEP) to continue this action until the end of 2026.
